Gilt
A thin layer of gold on a surface: one syllable of polish, handsome in a window.
§ 22Industry file · Beauty salon
A salon name sits on a window, a booking page and an Instagram grid, and it is recommended to friends by the person who just had their hair done. It should sound stylish and personal, a little playful, and avoid the hair puns that are so numerous that they now work against you.

A cozy time of day and a soft texture; reads as a salon you want to settle into.
The two tools on every counter; a simple pair that is easy to draw and remember.
A specific, personal-sounding chair number; hints at a small independent salon with a story.
Nail polish and a morning bird; playful alliteration for a nail and beauty studio.
A glow around a head; a soft, flattering word and a room-like place name.
A hair pun, but a good one, as it also sounds like perks; only for a salon with a sense of humour.

A blowout and a colour; rhythmic and glossy for a colour-and-style salon.
A particular number that implies a larger, glamorous salon, and a nice image to design around.

“I got it done at ___.” The name should be easy to say and spell for the friend who wants to book. If it needs spelling, you lose a booking.
A one-syllable name such as Gilt suggests premium. A warm name such as Marigold Studio feels accessible. Make sure the name matches what you charge, because it sets expectations before the first visit.
Hair-raising, Shear Madness, Curl Up and Dye are used in every town. One good pun can be a charm; a name made of one is a cliché.
Many stylists build a following under their name. If you rent a chair, your name on a business card is yours; if you open a salon, a business name lets you hire without the brand being you.
Clients will find you on Instagram and booking apps. Search your preferred handle and check there are no similar salons nearby with the same name.
