§ 08Privacy policy

What we keep, and for how long.

There are no accounts, so there is less to say than usual. This is the whole list of what is stored, where, and who else sees a request.

Last revised 10 October 20269 clauses

The short versionNot the whole policy
  • There are no accounts. Nobody signs up, and we do not ask for an email address or a password.
  • Your shortlist and saved games live in your browser. We never receive them.
  • Team Vote boards and Co-founder Match rooms are the only things kept on our servers, and they are deleted after 30 days without activity.
  • What you type in the generator goes to an AI provider to produce names. Do not type anything private into it.

§ 01

What stays on your device

These are kept by your browser and are not sent to us unless a feature below says so:

  • Your shortlist: the names you save, with the reasoning and wordmark style shown on each, up to 50 names, in local storage.
  • Showdown games in progress, and the list of team boards you created or opened (including the private key that lets you delete a board you made), in local storage.
  • A random device identifier that Co-founder Match uses to recognise your own swipes in a room. It is a random string, not derived from anything about you.
  • The generator form and its results, in session storage. These are cleared when you close the tab.

You can remove all of it at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings. Because none of it is on our servers, we cannot recover it for you either.

§ 02

What we store on our servers

Two features need a shared record, so they use a database:

  • Team Vote: the board’s title, the organiser’s first name if they gave one, the list of names, a one-way hash of the organiser’s delete key, and each ballot (the voter name as typed, and up to three ranked choices).
  • Co-founder Match: the deck of names, and for each person who swipes, their random device identifier, an optional display name and a like or pass for each name.

A board or room is kept for 30 days from its last activity (a new ballot or swipe restarts the clock). After that it is no longer served, and expired records are deleted from the database the next time someone creates a board or room. A board’s organiser can delete it earlier from the board itself.

Boards and rooms are reachable by anyone who has the link and are not listed anywhere or indexed by search engines. Treat the link like a private document and do not put names in a board that you could not show the people you share it with.

§ 03

When you generate names

What you enter in the generator (the description, industry, tone, keywords and audience) and the names already shown are sent to our server, which forwards it to a text-generation provider: a self-hosted model when one is available, otherwise a hosted model through Hugging Face’s inference providers, optionally routed through Cloudflare’s AI Gateway. The provider receives that text and returns names.

We do not save your descriptions in our database, and we do not attach them to an account, because there are none. A failed request may leave a technical error line in our server logs. Providers handle the text under their own terms, so keep personal details, client names and anything confidential out of the form.

The example names on industry pages are written by hand and are never generated at the time you view them.

§ 04

Domain lookups

To show whether .com, .io, .co and .ai are open, your browser sends the name’s domain label (for example “kindling”) to our server. Our server asks the registry’s public RDAP service (Verisign for .com, Identity Digital for .io and .ai) and, where that is unavailable or does not exist for the extension, Cloudflare’s DNS-over-HTTPS resolver.

Those services see the domain being looked up and our server’s address, not yours. Results are cached briefly for speed. Where a name shows as open, the chip links to a registrar’s search page in a new tab, and that site’s own policy applies once you leave. The links to Namecheap are affiliate links: they pass through a tracking address (namecheap.pxf.io, run by Impact) that records the click, and we may earn a commission if you buy there, at no extra cost to you. We do not send your name, your shortlist or anything else about you with the link, only the domain you clicked.

§ 05

Technical data and abuse limits

Our host and server receive the usual technical details of any web request: your IP address, browser and language headers and the page requested. We use them to serve the site and to rate-limit the generator, domain lookups and share-image routes. The limiter keeps short-lived counters (about a minute) keyed to your IP address and a hash of the IP address plus browser headers. It does not build a profile and nothing in it is shared.

§ 06

Analytics and cookies

The site itself sets no cookies and has no account system. If a Google Tag Manager container is switched on for the site, it loads from Google, and the tags configured inside it may collect page-view and usage data and set their own cookies under Google’s terms. Where that is the case, the consent and opt-out choices belong in your browser or your own blocker.

§ 07

Your choices

Because there are no accounts, there is nothing to log in to and nothing to export. To remove what the site holds about you:

  • Clear this site’s data in your browser to remove your shortlist, saved games, board list and device identifier.
  • Delete a Team Vote board you created from the board page, or wait for the 30 days to run out.
  • For a Co-founder Match room, wait for the 30 days to run out. Rooms have no organiser, so they cannot be deleted earlier.

The site is not aimed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

§ 08

Changes to this policy

If what we store or share changes, this page changes first and the date at the top moves with it. See also the terms of use and how the site works.
